Right then, let's get this bit sorted. Every now and again, someone asks about how we do things here at SpeakersMag. So, I figured it's worth laying out exactly what's what. Keeps everything above board, you know? I've been playing with speakers and audio gear for over two decades now. Started out tinkering in my dad's garage, eventually turned it into a full-blown obsession, and now I run this site. Every review, every article, it all comes from genuine hands-on experience. I wouldn't have it any other way. ## Our Reviews – How We Test When I get a new bit of kit in, it doesn't just sit on a shelf looking pretty. Oh no. It gets properly put through its paces. I've got a few different setups here at SpeakersMag HQ – a dedicated listening room, which is pretty well-treated, and also a more "real-world" living room environment. Plus, some gear ends up in my workshop or even my old Land Rover for a proper thrashing. I always try to live with the gear for a good while. For speakers, that often means weeks, sometimes months. Let's them properly break in, and gives me a real feel for how they perform day-to-day. I'll try them with different amplifiers, different sources, different types of music – everything from classical to heavy metal. You've got to hear how they handle everything, haven't you? For subwoofers, it's a bit different. I'm looking at how they integrate with main speakers, how they handle different room modes, and whether they can deliver proper, controlled bass without just being a muddy mess. I've got a few go-to tracks for bass testing, like "Limit to Your Love" by James Blake, which has some seriously deep notes, or even specific scenes from films where explosions really challenge a sub. Home cinema receivers get a workout with a mix of films and gaming. I want to know if they can create an immersive soundstage, handle dialogue clearly, and if the auto-calibration systems actually work properly. I'm not just reading specs off a sheet; I'm listening, tweaking, and listening some more. ### No Special Treatment, Ever Here’s the thing: nobody pays us for positive reviews. Simple as that. If a product is rubbish, I’ll say it’s rubbish. And believe me, I’ve sent a fair few bits of gear back with a pretty blunt assessment. Sometimes, manufacturers send us products to review. That’s how most review sites operate, really. We get the gear, we test it, we send it back unless we've agreed otherwise. Getting a product for free doesn't mean it gets a free pass in the review. Not on my watch. Other times, I just go out and buy the stuff myself, especially if it’s something I’m really curious about or if it’s a popular bit of kit that readers are asking about. That's often the case with more budget-friendly options where I want to see if the hype is justified. ## Affiliate Links – A Bit of Housekeeping SpeakersMag.co.uk is a completely free resource, and I want to keep it that way. Running a website, especially one with as much technical depth as this, isn’t cheap. There are hosting costs, equipment purchases, and countless hours spent testing and writing. So, to keep the lights on, we use affiliate links. What does that mean? Well, if you click on a link to, say, Amazon or another retailer from our site and then you buy something, we might get a small commission. It doesn't cost you a penny extra, mind. The price you pay is exactly the same. These commissions help us cover the running costs of the site. It means I can keep investing in new test equipment, maintain the servers, and keep bringing you honest, independent reviews. Think of it as a tip jar, if you like. It helps me focus on making SpeakersMag even better, rather than worrying about the bills. It's important to stress that these affiliate links *never* influence what I say in a review. My opinions are my own, formed through years of testing and listening. If I recommend something, it
