## My JBL Flip 5 Won't Turn On – Here's What I Do Right, so you've got a JBL Flip 5, and it's decided to play dead on you. Annoying, isn't it? I've had a fair few of these come across my workbench in the past, and it's usually something pretty straightforward. Don't chuck it out just yet. Let's go through what I typically try. ### 1. The Classic Power Cycle (and Charging Check) First things first, is it actually charged? Sounds daft, I know, but you'd be surprised how often this is the culprit. Grab your charging cable – preferably the original one if you can find it – and plug it into a wall socket you know is working. Not a dodgy USB port on your laptop; straight into the mains. Look for the little charging lights. Are they doing anything at all? A steady light, a blinking one, anything? If you get nothing, try holding down the power button for a good 10-15 seconds while it's still plugged in. Sometimes these things just need a bit of a kick up the backside to wake up. I've seen plenty of kit that just gets a bit confused and needs a hard reset like this. You're basically just draining any residual charge and forcing it to restart its brain. If it starts charging, leave it for at least an hour. Then, try turning it on again. ### 2. Button Check: Are They Stuck? This might seem a bit basic, but it's worth a look. Give all the buttons a good press. Do they feel loose? Are they sticky? Sometimes a bit of grit or grim can get under there, especially if you take your Flip 5 to the beach or out and about a lot. I've had units come in that looked like they'd been swimming in sand. Feel if they click properly. If a power button is jammed in, the speaker might not register you pressing it.
