Right, so you've got a pair of JBL headphones playing up. Not turning on, eh? Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. It's frustrating, isn't it, when your gear decides to pack it in just when you want to listen to something. I've seen this with all sorts of headphones over the years, not just JBL. But since we're talking about them today, let's dig in a bit. Now, before you throw them against a wall – and believe me, the temptation can be strong – let's go through a few simple checks. More often than not, it's something daft, something you've overlooked. We’ve all done it. ## The Obvious Stuff (But Worth Checking) ### Is It Charged, You Daft Sod? Sounds simple, I know, but how many times have you picked up something, only to realise the battery's flat? With JBL headphones, especially the wireless ones, a dead battery is the number one culprit. Plug 'em in. Give 'em a good half-hour. See if any indicator lights come on. If they do, you're probably just out of juice. If not, well, read on. I keep a little charging station in my workshop, a right mess of cables and plugs, but it means I can just grab any pair of headphones or portable speaker and stick it on charge. Saved me a good few headaches over the years. ### Power Button Fiddliness Sometimes, it’s not just a quick press. Some JBL models, like a few I’ve tested for longer reviews, need you to *hold* the power button for a few seconds. Three to five seconds is usually the sweet spot. A quick tap won’t always do it. It’s a common design choice to stop accidental power-ups in your bag, but it can catch you out. ## Digging a Bit Deeper ### Try a Different Charger and Cable I can't stress this enough. Cables die. Charging bricks die. Just because your phone charger works, doesn't mean it'll work for everything. I
